Gladbach through to last 16 despite defeat

Despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday, Gladbach have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are through to the knockout stage of the Champions League despite losing 2-0 to Real Madrid in their final group-stage game.

Two goals from Karim Benzema saw off 'Die Fohlen' om Wednesday, but the Bundesliga side still finished second behind Real Madrid in Group B after Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk drew 0-0 in Milan.

In Munich, Niklas Süle and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting got on the scoresheet for Bayern, who had already sealed the top spot in their group, as the German champions beat Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0.
