Erling Haaland scored twice as Borussia Dortmund secured progression to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-2 draw against Sevilla at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.

Leading 3-2 from the first leg, Dortmund struggled from the beginning of the game. The away side were on the front foot, putting the Germans under some heavy pressure in the first 30 minutes, but without creating any gilt-edged goalscoring opportunities.

In fact, it only looked to be a matter of time before Sevilla would find the opener until Dortmund suddenly struck at the other end with 35 minutes played. Sevilla lost possession playing out from the back, and BVB made the most of the situation as Haaland sent the ball into the net after a cutback from Marco Reus.

Dortmund thought they had made it 2-0 through Haaland shortly after the break, but the goal was disallowed, and the hosts were awarded a penalty instead as Jules Koundé committed a penalty on the Norwegian striker in the build-up to the goal.

Haaland was given the chance to score from the penalty spot and missed his attempt, but he was allowed to retake the shot after Sevilla goalkeeper Bono was adjudged to be off his line. The forward succeeded on his second try, slotting the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Sevilla brought themselves back into the game when Youssef en Nesyri pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 69th minute, and he grabbed another goal deep into injury time, making it 2-2.

The guests desperately tried to find the winner that would send the game into extra-time, but Dortmund survived, booking their ticket to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2017.
