Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on a deal to sign Said El Mala from 1. FC Köln, according to German Absolut Fussball journalist Christopher Michel.

Citing sources in agent circles, Michel reports that El Mala’s proposed summer transfer to the Seagulls is “largely done”.

The report comes as something of a surprise, as Sport Bild recently reported that Köln had set a €50 million price tag for the 19-year-old – a figure Brighton, reportedly only willing to pay €35 million plus bonuses, were reluctant to meet.

Earlier reports suggested that El Mala’s parents had already given the green light for the move to Brighton this summer.

El Mala has been a revelation for Köln this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances.
