Sport Bild Report: BVB consider Mason Greenwood as alternative to Sancho

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that Borussia Dortmund are considering bringing in Manchester United's Mason Greenwood as a potential budget alternative to Jadon Sancho this summer.

A permanent capture of Manchester United's Jadon Sancho remains problematic for the 24-year-old's former German club as it is well known that Sancho's current loan agreement with Borussia Dortmund does not contain a purchase option. Much as Dortmund wish to bring Sancho back to the Ruhr, the English Red Devils will certainly not be keen on failing to recoup the reported €85 million they paid to acquire Sancho in the summer of 2021.

Sancho's current estimated market worth has fallen from its one-time peak of €120 million (2020) to €25 million in the latest transfermarkt update. United are still reportedly seeking much more than that for the 23-times-capped England international. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid now reports that Dortmund may be considering another fallen Man U star; albeit one with plenty of personal baggage.

Mason Greenwood's - once valued as a €50 million talent - has been forced to rebuild his career in Spain following serious allegations of attempted rape, coercion, and assault. Greenwood was suspended from the United first team and sent out to Getafé on an extended loan in January of 2023. After amassing 16 scorer points in 36 appearances across all competitions, his estimated market worth has rebounded slightly to €15 million.

Charges against Greenwood were officially dropped one month into his La Liga loan-out. The 22-year-old forward - who like Sancho can work on both attacking flanks and central - will nevertheless not be returning to United despite the fact that his current contract with the Midlands club runs through the end of next season. Club and player have publicly stated this.

A loan is a possibility.
