Stage and Bremen hope for momentous occasion in decisive battle

Werder Bremen can boost their European hopes with a home win against sixth-placed RB Leipzig.

In Ole Werner’s 100th Bundesliga game as a coach, Werder Bremen can take a big step towards European qualification. Mathematically, the Green and Whites are still in the chase for a Champions League spot, but the other two competitions are their realistic goals.

There is also a big possibility of reaching a milestone of 2,000 home goals in the Bundesliga before the end of the season. Bremen are only three goals short of that landmark ahead of today’s game against Leipzig and the trip to relegation-threatened Heidenheim.

On a personal note, Jens Stage, who scored a brace last week away at Union Berlin, will hope to reach double digits for goals. The Danish international is a single goal shy of becoming the first Bremen midfielder to reach ten league goals for the season since Kevin De Bruyne and Aaron Hunt.

However, Stage and Bremen will have to battle their bogey team before ending the campaign in Heidenheim next weekend. Leipzig are currently the only club to go ten games unbeaten against Bremen.
