RB Leipzig recorded a come-from-behind win away at Hamburger SV as the hosts saw their six-game unbeaten run come to an end. Merlin Polzin spoke to the media after their first home defeat in 2026.

“Congratulations to Ole Werner and Leipzig on a well-deserved victory,” HSV’s coach conceded. “We started the game well and deservedly took the lead with a beautifully executed attack. The lads had already practiced this well in training.

“Then we failed to maintain the intensity and clarity in our play. We became increasingly passive. As a result, they scored the equalizer. In the second half, we tried to regain control, but we were completely unsuccessful. The opposing team were superior to us in many aspects, which is also due to their individual qualities.”

Hamburg will have another home game on Wednesday with the rescheduled fixture against Bayer Leverkusen. “We failed to utilize the Volksparkstadion to our advantage. To be quite frank, it simply wasn't a good game from us, and we want to do better on Wednesday.”
