Toni Kroos: "We won with confidence"

Toni Kroos was delighted with the confidence shown by Germany in their 5-1 Euro 2024 opening win over Scotland.

But it wasn't just Germany that played well, Kroos said, noting that Scotland were not at their best.

"I think we did what we set out to do. Logically, we wanted to start well, we did that, we never let Scotland get into the game and we won with confidence," the Real Madrid midfielder said in a post-match interview.

"We were rewarded for a good start, which gives a team confidence in the first game of a European Championship at home. Of course, our opponents weren't at their best either and the game was decided after the red card. We played with confidence, but of course an early goal helps.

"I don't know if you're in the flow after one game. But if we carry that over to the next game, which will definitely be more difficult because we're up against a team that's at least a class above Scotland, then we can talk about flow.

Germany continue their Euro 2024 campaign against Hungary on Wednesday.
