Völler confirms Anton's move to Dortmund

Waldemar Anton's imminent move to Borussia Dortmund has been confirmed by Germany boss Rudi Völler.

Reports that Waldemar Anton has decided to join Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart have been confirmed by Germany sporting director Rudi Völler.

Speaking about Anton at a press conference at the German national team camp on Wednesday, Völler said:

“I don't know how many clubs were interested in [Anton]. I know my old club Bayer Leverkusen would have liked to sign him, but in the end he chose Dortmund.”

However, Völler later backtracked slightly, insisting that he doesn't have any insider information on the negotiations.

“I'm still a bit old-fashioned and I read the newspaper, I read about it in Bild. Of course I didn't want to make anything official, let's see what happens.”

Anton reportedly has a release clause of €22.5 million in his contract with Stuttgart.

As captain, the 27-year-old played a key role in the Swabians' impressive second-place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
