Völler joins Nagelsmann in backing Neuer after blunder against Greece

After Julian Nagelsmann, Rudi Völler has now come out in support of Manuel Neuer following his mistake in Friday's friendly against Greece.

Manuel Neuer made a huge mistake in Germany's 2-1 win over Greece on Friday, reigniting speculation over whether he's the right first-choice goalkeeper for Euro 2024.

After the game, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann was quick to back Neuer, and now DFB sporting director Rudi Völler has come out in support of the 38-year-old veteran.

"I can only agree with Julian. Manuel has our absolute trust," Völler said in an interview with German tabloid Bild.

"The fact that there can be discussions after conceding a goal like that is part of the business. I understand if there's criticism," Völler said, looking ahead to Friday's European Championship opener against Scotland in Munich:

"We don't need a goalkeeper discussion right now. There are other issues we should be dealing with," he concluded.

Marc-André ter Stegen is Germany's second-choice goalkeeper, with Oliver Baumann the third option.
