After seeing his proposed move to Bayern Munich from VfB Stuttgart fall through, as the two clubs couldn’t reach an agreement, Nick Woltemade instead joined Newcastle United towards the end of the transfer window.

It was recently reported that Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß personally called Woltemade in an attempt to persuade him to join Bayern and the striker has now confirmed this.

“Uli Hoeneß is a very well-known person. The conversations with him were pleasant, and he gave me a really good feeling. But now I’m happy to be in Newcastle,” Woltemade told Sport Bild.

Unlike when Bayern showed interest in him, Woltemade did not seek advice from Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann before agreeing terms with Newcastle.

“In the end, everything happened quite quickly. But in general, [Nagelsmann] has always told me: ‘If anything comes up, you can call me anytime.’

“We’ve since spoken about it. For him, the important thing is that I play. As long as that’s the case, everything is fine.”
