Thomas Tuchel is set to remain as coach of the English national team despite a 2-1 loss to Argentina in their World Cup semi-final last night.

This is according to multiple media reports, although elements of the English press is sharply criticizing the German coach.

The Mirror, among others, accusing him of "poor tactics and incorrect substitutions" against the reigning 2022 World champions.

Tuchel, labeled “a co-coach specialist and a tactical genius” by the FA on his appointment, said after Wednesday's heartbreaking defeat:

“You can discuss it with a million coaches, but I have to make a decision on the pitch. I analyzed the game and decided on a specific approach – so it's my responsibility.

At the moment, I have no regrets. The team gave everything, and we were very, very close. We deserved to be 1-0 up.”

The contract of the Krumbach native runs until the 2028 European Championship in two years hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
