Deniz Undav delivered a standout performance for Germany on Sunday, scoring twice and providing an assist in a comfortable 4-0 friendly win over Finland, just two weeks before their World Cup opener against Curaçao.
There was, however, a fly in the ointment for the Stuttgart striker, who picked up a knock while scoring his second goal and was forced off.
Then, around 25 minutes after being substituted, Undav returned from the dressing room in a tracksuit and rejoined the German bench.
Speaking after the game, the 29-year-old did not appear overly concerned that the injury would affect his World Cup prospects.
“I had a bit of pain, but nothing serious," Undav told ZDF in a post-match interview.
“Everything’s fine, a few days of treatment and then it will be okay,” added the striker, who rated the evening ”10 out of 10".
Asked whether he felt he had given strong arguments to start at the World Cup, Undav replied:
“That’s for the national team coach to decide. I did my job well today and last time as well.”
