Borussia Dortmund are in no rush to enter talks with head coach Niko Kovac over a new contract, says club CEO Carsten Cramer.

Kovac is entering the final year of his contract with Dortmund. and although Cramer underlines that the management is happy with his work, the club’s immediate focus lies elsewhere for now.

“The basic message remains: We are extremely satisfied with Niko. But, without wanting to reveal too much: we are still in the process of finalising the squad,” Cramer told Kicker.

“Then we will begin pre-season and, just like last year, we will start the discussions at the right time. That was not the priority task during the seven weeks of holiday,” Cramer added, emphasising that Kovac is also “completely relaxed” about his future.

“Niko hasn’t been constantly sending WhatsApp messages or using his agent to send messages on his behalf.”

Kovac took over as Dortmund coach in February 2025.
