Frankfurt flop Wahi set for Nice return after difficult spell in Germany

Elye Wahi's difficult spell at Eintracht Frankfurt appears to be coming to an end, with the striker on the verge of returning to OGC Nice.

Wahi is expected to join the Ligue 1 side on loan, just months after spending the second half of the previous season there. The 23-year-old has already arrived in Nice and was reportedly greeted by a large group of enthusiastic supporters at the airport.

A return to France could be exactly what Wahi needs after struggling to make his mark in Frankfurt.

The forward joined Eintracht in January 2025 for around €26 million, making him the club's record signing at the time. However, Wahi managed just one goal and three assists in 25 competitive appearances for the German club.

His first loan spell at Nice proved considerably more successful. During the second half of the 2025/26 campaign, Wahi scored nine competitive goals, including several important strikes during Nice's battle against relegation. His performances also helped restore some of the confidence that had disappeared during his time in Germany.

Now, Nice are ready to give the striker another opportunity.

The proposed deal is reportedly a loan with a €15 million purchase option, while Frankfurt could receive around €3 million as a loan fee. Nice would also take over Wahi's full salary during the loan period. If the option is eventually triggered, Frankfurt could therefore recoup a significant portion of their original investment of €26 million.
