Behind the scenes at the DFB, there are signs that Julian Nagelsmann could include Manuel Neuer in his Germany squad for the World Cup.

According to Kicker.de, the topic has and still is being discussed far more intensely internally than Nagelsmann is willing to portray publicly.

FC Bayern Munich, who have reportedly also just agreed a new contract with the veteran goalkeeper, are also aware of that.

On Monday, the DFB had to submit a preliminary list of 55 players to FIFA, of which at least five are expected to be goalkeepers.

While not publicly available, it's assumed Neuer's name is there alongside Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen, and Jonas Urbig.

Both Nagelsmann and Neuer have repeatedly insisted that they maintain a good relationship and are in regular contact.

Tensions that Nagelsmann, then Bayern coach, caused in January 2023 during Neuer's serious leg injury by dismissing the latter's confidant Toni Tapalovic have long since been resolved.

With the World Cup effectively just around the corner now, Nagelsmann will announce his final squad on Thursday, 21 May.
