Jae-Sung Lee pens new Mainz deal

FSV Mainz 05 confirmed a contract extension for South Korean attacker Jae-Sung Lee on Tuesday.
After a highly successful year for both club and country, South Korean attacker Jae-Sung Lee has received a new contract with his Bundesliga club. Germany's Rheinhessen confirmed that the 30-year-old Taeguk Warrior had extended his current working papers by an additional two years. There had been some talk of FSV Mainz 05 selling him as he entered the final year of his deal.

In a clear statement of the club's intent to keep him, Lee should now ideally work in the Pfälzer capital through 2026. The 71-times-capped international scored seven goals and chipped in a further six assists for Mainz in the recently completed season. He was a regular feature as a buttressing support attacker in head-coach Bo Svensson's starting XI.

"Jae-sung Lee and Mainz 05 is a partnership that simply fits," club sporting CEO Christian Heidel remarked in a statement released by the club, "He has not only developed into an absolute regular with his game intelligence, his goal threat and his fighter mentality. He's also played his way into the hearts of the Mainz fans. Jae-sung is an incredibly likeable guy. We are glad that he will continue to bring his strengths to the pitch for Mainz 05."

"I was very pleased when Mainz 05 approached me with the desire to extend my contract," the player himself added, "I feel very comfortable here, I'm looking forward to being 05ER for the next three years as well and to play for the great fans here."
