While Dortmund are obviously capable of finding young, talented players outside of the country, they now want to become better at turning German youngsters into first team players.
"It must be our goal to once again integrate more young German players in our first team," head of Dortmund's licensed player division Sebastian Kehl told DPA and continued:
"Many young players from France or England are extremely well-educated and physically one step ahead of our players. We need to reflect on this and improve our work and training with youth players."
According to the squad list on Dortmund's website, the league leaders currently have 10 German players in their first team squad - Eric Oelschlägel, Jeremy Toljan, Marcel Schmelzer, Mario Götze, Mahmoud Dahoud, Dzenis Burnic, Julian Weigl, Marco Reus, Maximilian Philipp and Marius Wolf.
