Speaking to Bild, the 30-year-old now admits that his future at the Bavarian club is uncertain.
"I don't know yet if it's my last season for Bayern. Of course, I want to leave the club in a good place and become German champions again - and hopefully also win the DFB-Pokal," he said.
Niklas Süle and Mats Hummels have been Bayern coach Niko Kovac's preferred partnership in central defence this season - and the competition for places will only he tougher next season with the summer arrivals of Benjamin Pavard (VfB Stuttgart) and Lucas Hernandez (Atlético Madrid).
Boateng, who is under contract until 2021, was linked with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
