Xaver Schlager: 'I don't really have to adjust to the intensity here'

VfL Wolfsburg newcomer Xaver Schlager is pleased with the playing style at his new club.
Xaver Schlager says he has found it relatively easy to adjust to the philosophy of Wolfsburg's new coach, Oliver Glasner.

Glasner prefers a high defensive line and wants to stress his opponents by applying pressure far up the pitch – a philosophy quite similar to that of Marco Rose whom Schlager played under at Red Bull Salzburg in the past few seasons.

"We play very similarly. I don't really have to adjust to the intensity here. For the other players, who have been here for some time, the change may be bigger than it is for me," Schlager said in an interview with Kicker and added:

"It gets better, step by step. Of course, not all automatisms are in place yet, but the other players will notice how effective this system is. It's the philosophy that I love."

Wolfsburg paid €15 million to bring Schlager to Germany from Salzburg.
