Kimmich rues mistakes and missed chances, defends Neuer after defeat to Aston Villa
Despite controlling proceedings for much of Wednesday's match in Birmingham, Bayern Munich came away empty-handed as they lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in the Champions League.
Joshua Kimmich lamented Bayern's mistakes and missed chances after the match.
"In general, we didn't do 100 per cent of what we set out to do. We made too many mistakes. We didn't manage to collect the second balls. We had some very good chances going forward. There weren't many, but the ones we did have were 100 per cent chances," Kimmich told DAZN.
Aston Villa made the most of Manuel Neuer being far out of his goal when Jhon Duran lifted the ball over the veteran goalkeeper to score the winner. Nevertheless, Kimmich didn't want to point his finger at the 38-year-old goalkeeper.
“We were perhaps a little too far away. ‘Manu’ is generally very high up the pitch. We often benefit from the fact that he is so high up. We don't blame 'Manu'.”
