Asked if he could see himself leaving the club in the summer, the German international told Sport Bild:
"It's difficult to say in the current situation, nobody knows how things will continue. It's clear that I want to take the next step. But first of all, I hope that the coronavirus will be contained, that normality will quickly prevail and that we will be able to play again."
In January, the 23-year-old came close to a move to RB Leipzig, but he ultimately stayed at Freiburg. However, it only seems to be a matter of time before he will leave the club.
"There were inquiries from big clubs, so it's a topic you have to deal with. But I still have a contract in Freiburg until 2021. The club will decide how to go on. But, logically, I'm thinking about it."
Koch has recently been linked with a move to SSC Napoli.
