Elye Wahi has completed his loan move to OGC Nice, without an option to buy. Despite Jonathan Burkardt’s injury, the Frenchman was unable to improve his status at Eintracht Frankfurt.

When Frankfurt parted with €26 million to bring Wahi last year, the 22-year-old was expected to follow the footsteps of former strikers at the club. However, he has now departed the club without finding the net in 18 Bundesliga appearances.

His only goal for the club came in the DFB-Pokal against fifth-tier club FV Engers 07. Wahi also had an equally troubling time at Olympique de Marseille before leaving his home country for the first time in his career.

Nice endured a difficult first half of the season as they languished in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 standings. They’re also yet to earn a point in the Europa League. Franck Haise, who was Wahi’s coach at RC Lens, is replaced by the experienced coach Claude Puel ahead of Ligue 1’s resumption this weekend.

"We wish him all the best for the coming months in Nice. Above all, we hope that he regains his self-confidence and self-awareness," said Frankfurt's sporting CEO Markus Krösche.
