According to information from WAZ newspaper, FC Schalke 04 are making rapid progress in their pursuit of Jesper Lindstrøm.

There has been "clear progress" in recent days in negotiations with both the versatile attacking player and his employers SSC Napoli.

The 18-time Danish international is under contract in Italy until 2028, but is expected to leave the club this summer.

The regional newspaper suggests a loan with an option or even an obligation to buy if the team avoids relegation is possible.

Last season, the 26-year-old played on loan for VfL Wolfsburg but struggled to make an impact with no attacking returns.

WAZ believe it's unlikely that Lindstrøm will join the newly promoted Bundesliga team at their training camp, which they left for on Sunday.

However, the chances are generally good that Schalke will pull off another transfer coup and one with German topflight experience.
