Real Madrid could enter Wirtz race as Manchester City drop out
With one suitor, Manchester City, now out of the race for Florian Wirtz, another could soon step up: Real Madrid.
According to Radio Marca, departing Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has expressed a desire to continue working with Wirtz next season at Real Madrid.
After taking the reins at the Spanish capital club, Alonso could implement his preferred 3-5-2 system, with Wirtz occupying the No. 10 role - just as he has done so effectively at Leverkusen.
The chance to keep working under a coach he knows, respects and trusts at one of the world's biggest clubs could prove to be a decisive factor in Wirtz’s future plans.
If Real Madrid’s interest is serious, they could emerge as strong challengers to Bayern Munich, who are currently viewed as the front-runners to sign the 22-year-old.
Liverpool, who look set to sign Wirtz's teammate Jeremie Frimpong, have also been linked with the German international.
