After having trained with the FC Schalke 04 reserves for several weeks, former German international Amin Younes will receive another chance to play professional football in Germany. The 30-year-old returns to his native country some 28 months after he officially left Eintracht Frankfurt under a cloud of controversy. Younes won the 2017 Confederations Cup under Bundestrainer Jogi Löw and was capped under Löw as late as 2021.
The overall eight-times-capped international signed a two-year-contract with the Köngisblauen on Wednesday. Younes - who has scored four goals in 52 Bundesliga appearances - expressed gratitude at having been given another chance. S04 sporting director Marc Wilmots praised the attacking midfielder for working hard to prove himself during his audition.
“I would like to thank Ben Manga, Marc Wilmots and Karel Geraerts as well as the entire U23 coaching team for the trust they have placed in me," Younes noted in a statement released by the club, "They have signaled to me that they believe in me. Now it's up to me to perform and justify their trust.”
“Amin is an attacking artist who possesses outstanding technical skills," Wilmots added, :In recent weeks, he has shown that he has the absolute will to get back to a top level physically. His ambition, his adaptability, and his performances have impressed us. We want to give him this chance.”
