Valencia eye loan move for former Leverkusen defender Mario Hermoso

After a brief and unfortunate spell at Bayer Leverkusen, Mario Hermoso could soon be heading back to Spain.

As per reports from Fußball Transfers, Valencia CF have submitted a loan offer with a purchase option to AS Roma for the 30-year-old centre-back.

However, Roma reportedly prefer a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy. Negotiations are ongoing, and both clubs are said to be close to reaching a compromise. Hermoso remains under contract with the Serie A side until 2027.

Hermoso joined Leverkusen on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season but struggled to make an impact, managing just seven appearances before a tendon injury in his chest ended his campaign in mid-March. Unsurprisingly, the Bundesliga champions opted not to extend his stay.

Should the move go through, Valencia would become Hermoso’s third club in Spain’s top flight. The Real Madrid academy product previously featured for Espanyol and Atlético Madrid.
