Bayern Munich have confirmed that Manuel Neuer “will have to take it easy for the time being” due to muscular problems in his calf.

The discovery of this injury was the result of a detailed examination by the Bayern medical department this Sunday afternoon, 17 May.

The captain was substituted in the 60th-minute of Saturday's Bundesliga 5-1 home victory against 1.FC Köln due to the injury.

Although the 40-year-old stayed around to celebrate the Bavarians' title celebrations, the news does come as a concern.

With Bayern just 6 days out from a DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart, whether he can be fit in time for the 20:00 CET kick-off is unknown.

Furthermore, despite international retirement, Neuer was included in Julian Nagelsmann's provisional 55-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.

There has been growing speculation that the veteran shot-stopper could miraclously return to travel to the USA, Canada and Mexico.
