Nils Schmadtke replaces Markus Pilawa as Bayern Munich's head of scouting.

FC Bayern Munich have appointed Nils Schmadtke as their new head of scouting.

Schmadtke replaces Markus Pilawa in the position with immediate effect, the Bavarians announced on Tuesday afternoon

“We’re delighted that we’ve managed to bring Nils Schmadtke to FC Bayern," said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund of Schmadtke.

"Nils already has plenty of experience in professional football and brings great expertise in scouting. We want to recognise potential players for Bayern as early as possible, and Nils will take on an important role here.

"In addition, Nils will be responsible for intensive interaction with our FC Bayern Campus. We would like to thank Markus Pilawa for two years of good cooperation. We wish him all the best and success in his future endeavours.”

The son of former Wolfsburg boss Jörg Schmadtke, 35-year-old Nils Schmadtke spent the 2023/24 season as Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director.

Prior to that, he was head of scouting at VfL Wolfsburg. He has also worked as a scout for both Gladbach and FC Köln.
