BVB release clause revealed - Only select clubs can trigger Guirassy deal

Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy could leave the club next summer for a fixed fee of €50 million - but only if one of a select group of top European clubs decides to make a move.

According to Bild, the release clause in Guirassy’s contract is limited to a handful of elite teams, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

For all other potential suitors - such as clubs from the Saudi Pro League - Dortmund’s asking price would be significantly higher. The report claims BVB would only be willing to negotiate from around €80 million in those cases.

Guirassy joined Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart in 2024 for a fee of €18 million and has quickly become one of the team’s key players under Niko Kovac. The 29-year-old is said to be happy in Dortmund, though his representatives continue to monitor the market, partly in anticipation of a possible pay rise.

He currently earns around €9 million per year, while his contract with BVB runs until 2028.

The deal also includes a clause that gradually reduces the release fee over time. By 2026, it is expected to drop to around €50 million - a mechanism agreed when he signed with the club. Such a structure means Dortmund could command a higher fee if a transfer were to take place earlier.

Barcelona are reportedly among the clubs most closely watching Guirassy’s situation. Head coach Hansi Flick could be in the market for a new striker next summer, with Robert Lewandowski set to turn 37 during the 2026 World Cup period.

Guirassy could represent a relatively affordable option for the Catalans if the release clause applies, or if Dortmund are willing to enter negotiations.
