Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed this afternoon, Wednesday 1 April, that Mario Götze has signed a new contract at the club.

The Hessen side announced that the 33-year-old, whose contract was to expire this summer, has signed for two more years until 2028.

“Mario is a very important player and an equally important personality for the team and the club," said sporting director Markus Krösche, after the deal was made official.

“He has experienced almost everything in his professional career, gone through highs and lows, and thus gained a wealth of experience that he now wants to share with the many young players in our club,” he added.

“My love for football and for this club convinced me to extend my contract. We currently have a few challenges to overcome. But we are ready to face them," Götze himself underlined.

“Who knows what might be possible in the near future. Winning the cup again, for example, would be very nice,” the midfielder said.

The 2014 World Cup winner swapped his former clun PSV Eindhoven for Frankfurt in the summer of 2022 for just €3million.

To date, Götze has made a total of 148 appearances for the Hessen club, scoring 12 goals and providing 18 assists.
