Since making his France debut in a 3-1 defeat to Italy in September 2024, Michael Olise has established himself as one of the key players for Didier Deschamps’ side.
In an interview with Sport Bild, Deschamps explains that things were “difficult” with Olise at the beginning, but that he believes the Bayern Munich star has since developed into one of the world's best players.
“When he first joined us with the national team after the 2024 Olympics, things were a little difficult for him,” Deschamps said.
“But through perseverance and great support, he has become one of the best players in the world. He is our link between the finishers up front and the teammates behind him.”
Olise has provided five assists in five appearances for France at the World Cup, where they will face Morocco in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
