Fortuna Düsseldorf's relegation to the 3. Liga may not only have harmful side effects off the pitch, but now on it too.

According to a report from Sky Germany, the release clause of Satoshi Tanaka has dropped from €10million to just €1million.

As a result, the 23-year-old is expected to leave Düsseldorf this summer despite only arriving for around €1million in December 2025.

In his 13 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga last campaign – the Japanese international known for his defensive talent – provided two assists.

It's believed newly promoted FC Schalke 04 and many other clubs, including some Bundesliga sides, want the midfielder.

Regardless of who Tanaka ultimately joins, Fortuna Düsseldorf are sure to lose out given Transfermarkt.com values him at €2million.
