11 wins in a row for Bayern
Bayern Munich have won every game since their 7-1 defeat in Barcelona as they continued that run with a dominant display in Frankfurt. On her 25th birthday, Klara Bühl scored the opener before providing a couple of assists to Jovana Damnjanović.
Pernille Harder also had a goal and two assists, while the 19-year-old Germany international Alara scored the fifth after entering as a half-time substitute. Bayern will face Atletico Madrid away from home in the fifth matchday of the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday.
Wolfsburg complete the double over Freiburg
Wolfsburg knocked out Freiburg from the cup with a 3-1 win last month, and a similar scoreline repeated on Friday at AOK Stadion. Freiburg were in front at the break, but She-Wolves roared back in the second-half to record their fourth successive win in all competitions.
Wolfsburg’s top-scorer Lineth Beerensteyn is currently on the sidelines, but Alexandra Popp scored her seventh league goal of the campaign after missing the game before the international break due to an injury. Wolfsburg will also be in Madrid this midweek for a blockbuster Champions League fixture against Real Madrid.
Essen out of the drop zone with huge win
SGS Essen’s first home win of the season was enough to see the club, who made a name for nurturing lots of current Germany internationals, get out of the red zone. The right-back Vanessa Fürst and substitute Leonie Köpp scored the goals in their 2-0 win over newly-promoted Nürnberg.
Meanwhile, Bremen and Leverkusen won their respective games to stay in the top four. Germany U23 international Larissa Mühlhaus scored the only goal of the game from a penalty-kick in Bremen’s win at cellar-dwellers Carl Zeiss Jena.
Mühlhaus scored 30 goals for HSV and Bremen in the past couple of seasons, and she is now leading the Frauen-Bundesliga’s scoring chart with eight, alongside Leverkusen’s summer signing Vanessa Fudalla and Köln's Sandra Jessen.
The midfielder was also on the scoresheet from a spot-kick this weekend as Leverkusen beat RB Leipzig 3-2, thanks to three goals inside the first 17 minutes. Elsewhere, Hoffenheim are level on points with Freiburg and Frankfurt after their 3-0 victory over Union Berlin. On Monday, Köln beat Hamburg 4-1 away from home thanks to Jessen's hat-trick.
