Niklas Scheller won a starting berth for the first time in Germany U17’s 7-0 win over El Salvador, but he’ll now miss the rest of the World Cup due to a hip injury. The defender provided two second-half assists while playing the entire 90 minutes on Monday.

The Eintracht Frankfurt youngster will not return to his club as he has decided to stay with the national team in Doha, Qatar. DFB announced that he’ll receive the medical care in the team’s camp before their return to Germany.

Scheller predominantly played as a center-back in the opening three UEFA Youth League games for Frankfurt, but Marc-Patrick Meister deployed him as a left-back.  Bayer Leverkusen’s Osman Turay could regain his spot for tomorrow’s Round of 32 fixture against Burkina Faso.
