Expectations were high when Victor Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

However, the striker’s spell at the Weserstadion has failed to take off, and knee problems forced him to miss the final games before the winter break.

It was recently reported that both Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen have advised Boniface to undergo surgery, with the final decision resting with the player.

Bild now reports that, regardless of whether he chooses to have the operation, Boniface will not play for Werder again.

According to the German tabloid, the Nigerian forward’s knee is so severely damaged that it would be too risky to field him without surgery.

Boniface remains under contract with Leverkusen until 2028.
