Mainz midfielder ruled out for multiple weeks

After the midfielder missed Thursday’s 2–0 win over Racing Strasbourg in the Conference League, sporting director Niko Bungert provided an update on his condition.

“He suffered a small fracture in his toe,” Bungert told Allgemeine Zeitung.

Giving an exact timeframe for his recovery is difficult, but there is “initial small hope that he might be able to return in about three weeks," the Mainz boss added.

Sota Kawasaki, who featured in Lee’s absence against Strasbourg, could be given another chance in the starting XI against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
