Nagelsmann confirms ter Stegen is Germany's number one

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Marc-André ter Stegen is his first-choice goalkeeper after recalling the FC Barcelona veteran for the Nations League Final Four.

For the first time since suffering a patellar tendon rupture in September, Marc-André ter Stegen is back with the German national team for the UEFA Nations League Final Four in June.

After naming the 33-year-old in his squad, head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that the Barcelona goalkeeper will be reinstated as Germany’s first-choice, ahead of Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann and Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel.

“We’ve often emphasized that Marc is our number one. He’s in top shape in training - [Barcelona coach] Hansi Flick has confirmed that to me as well,” Nagelsmann explained.

“He’s in great form, and we need him in the group. He also needs to get into the rhythm with us. So it’s exactly the right decision to have him back.”

Germany will face Portugal in the semi-finals on June 4.
