Bayer Leverkusen have fended off growing interest in Patrik Schick by tying the Czech striker down to a new long-term contract.

Schick's contract, which was due to expire in 2025, has been extended by a further two years until 2027.

"Patrik Schick has played a fantastic season, demonstrating that he's an absolute world class player in his position. There are only a few centre-forwards of his caliber internationally," said Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes.

"Patrik's exceptional sporting qualities as a complete striker are complemented by the skills of a leader, who provides a team with guidance and support on the pitch. The contract extension with a professional of his caliber underscores the ambition we all have at Bayer."

The 26-year-old, who scored 24 goals in 27 appearances through the 2021/22 season, stated:

"I just feel comfortable here. But above all, our team has a lot of promise for the future. It's a lot of fun with these guys, and we have great desire to really pull something off. Qualifying for the Champions League is a good next step. A lot is possible here, which is exactly why I extended my contract with Bayer 04."
