Nico Elvedi's contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach has been extended until 2022, the centre-back has confirmed.

"My contract expires in 2022, two and a half years from now," Elvedi said in an interview with Bild.

"You can see that Borussia have developed into a real top club. There is a great team, a great coach and great fans. It slowly no longer seems necessary to take the next step at another club," he added.

Elvedi's deal was due to run out in 2021, but Bild reports that the centre-back has triggered a one-year extension by making a certain number of appearances for the club.

The 23-year-old, who has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Inter, has made a total of 146 appearances for Gladbach, chipping in with five goals and six assists.
