Rummenigge: Pep Guardiola wanted to play Manuel Neuer in midfield

Bayern München chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims that Pep Guardiola wanted to let Manuel Neuer play as a midfielder in the past.
Pep Guardiola wanted to let Manuel Neuer start in midfield during his tenure at Bayern München, club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed.

The Bayern goalkeeper is so good with his feet that Guardiola wanted to see how he would do as an outfield player, but Rummenigge ultimately stopped the current Manchester City manager from conducting his experiment.

"I remember how, after sealing the championship, Pep Guardiola seriously considered playing him in midfield for a game. It was only after much difficulty that I managed to talk Pep out of it, because some could have interpreted it as arrogance. I'm sure 'Manu' would have done fine in midfield, though," Rummenigge wrote in Bayern's club magazine, '51'.

Guardiola spent three seasons in Munich between 2013 and 2016.
