Lucien Favre not planning to rest Erling Haaland

Speaking ahead of Borussia Dortmund's upcoming clash with FC Köln, head coach Lucien Favre says he has no intention of resting Erling Haaland.
Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre has dismissed the notion of granting Erling Haaland a rest despite the club's packed fixture list.

Haaland has been in fantastic form lately, scoring six goals in Dortmund's last two games against Hertha BSC and Club Brugge, and Favre sees no need to rotate him out of the line-up at the moment.

"With a good rest, Erling will certainly be ready to play. If I have my way, he will get a break as late as possible," Favre said at a press conference ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with FC Köln.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc had plenty of praise for the 20-year-old striker.

"You don't have to keep Erling grounded. He radiates so much positive dynamism. Why should you try to stop that? He's a player who leads the way, and that does us a lot of good."

Asked about the challenge of keeping his squad fresh while playing two games a week, Favre said:

"Unfortunately, all teams have this problem. We always have to see who can play. Some players will have to play all the games. There's no way around it."

Favre also suggested that Saturday's game will come too soon for Dan-Axel Zagadou while Raphael Guerreiro is a doubt after picking up a knock.

“Zagadou won't be ready for a few more days, maybe next week. With Guerreiro, we'll have to see how he is today," said the BVB coach.
