Mainz 05 have secured the services of Phillip Tietz from FC Augsburg, both clubs have confirmed this afternoon.

The 28-year-old striker joins from the Bavarian club and has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with an option for a further year.

Both sides from Germany's topflight have agreed to keep the exact transfer fee for the marksman completely confidential.

Tietz completed his medical on Friday morning and will be on the training pitch with his new teammates to start pre-season training.

Tietz featured in all 34 league matches for Augsburg in the past two seasons, scoring a total of 15 Bundesliga goals.

The Braunschweig native knows the Rhine-Main region very well: before joining Augsburg, Tietz played for Wehen Wiesbaden and SV Darmstadt 98.

“Phillip Tietz is exactly the attacking reinforcement we were looking for," said Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert.

"Phillip is an experienced, combative center forward who, with his height of 1.90 meters, bring power and physical presence.

"He can create goal-scoring opportunities and has reliably demonstrated this in recent years. We are very pleased that we were able to sign him.”
