Austria extended Ralf Rangnick’s contract until 2028 to put an end to rumors linking the German with AC Milan. In recent days, the 67-year-old was listed among the options considered by the Italian club for the role of technical director.

However, ÖFB (Austrian Football Association) ended the rumors early as the German signed an early extension that will include a commitment in the next European Championship. Rangnick helped Austria qualify for the World Cup after a 28-year wait.

“Rangnick will continue the successful run with the Austrian national team and remain in his role with the Austrian ‌Football Association at least until UEFA Euro 2028. Under Rangnick's leadership, Austria have developed exceptionally well on the field and established itself on ‌the international stage.” ÖFB's statement reads.

Rangnick took over the job in 2022, shortly after the end of his difficult time as Manchester United’s interim coach. Austria will start their World Cup campaign against debutants Jordan on Tuesday before bigger challenges versus holders Argentina and Algeria.
