In his first press conference as VfL Wolfsburg's new sporting director, Pirmin Schwegler discussed how he was attracted to the job with the Autostadt club.

"The idea of how we want to work here and the issues we want to tackle captivated me from the very first moment.

"I had intensive and lengthy discussions with Peter Christiansen, in which I felt very comfortable, and that's why I'm now looking forward to starting.

"I met the team and the people involved in Frankfurt almost two weeks ago and also watched the last match against Union Berlin.

"Therefore, I have great confidence in the people and the team, and I'm excited about the challenge here. We are ambitious. But above all, we want to be known for the work we do.

“It's through this work and the resulting performance that you achieve results. It doesn't work the other way around. I stand by that point,” explained the 38-year-old.

Schwegler will oversee his first game since taking the role at the Lower Saxony club this Saturday when they face Borussia Mönchengladbach.
