SGE confirm assistant coaching role for Hasebe

German footballing legend Makoto Hasebe's first post-career professional station has been confirmed.

Having finally made the decision to hang up his cleats last spring, 40-year-old German footballing legend Makoto Hasebe will now serve as an assistant coach for the Frankfurt reserves. The SGE confirmed Hasebe's appointment late yesterday. Hasebe is one of three assistants who will work alongside U21 trainer Dennis Schmitt.

Hasebe brings with him a wealth of Bundesliga experience, having made a total of 384 top flight appearances for Wolfsburg, Nürnberg, and Eintracht. Of his more than 700 total competitive appearances, 235 of them came whilst representing the RheinMain Adler. The 114-times-capped Japanese international obtained his B+ coaching license last spring.

"I'm naturally looking forward to the new challenge," Hasebe is quoted as saying on the SGE website, "and am very grateful to Eintracht for giving me this opportunity."I was a professional footballer for a total of 23 years and gained a lot of experience during that time, but the coaching job is completely different. I need to gain as much experience as possible in my new position and develop step by step."

"We are very, very proud to have gained Makoto as a coach for our youth academy," SGE youth academy director Alexander Richter added, "He has shown great interest in starting his coaching career at Eintracht Frankfurt. We are very happy to accompany him on this path and will try to develop him further in this new role."
