Nick Woltemade’s proposed move to Bayern Munich appears to be off, but even if he stays this summer, the 23-year-old will likely move on at some point - probably as soon as next year.

With that in mind, Stuttgart are looking at potential long-term replacements - and according to Kicker, Mainz’s Nelson Weiper has emerged as an option.

The 20-year-old, who played alongside Woltemade at the U21 Euros, has just one year remaining on his Mainz contract.

While the prospect of a double-digit million-euro transfer initially put Stuttgart off, the club is still keeping a close eye on Weiper and could capitalize on his short contract - particularly since Mainz will likely want to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Weiper found the net three times in 23 Bundesliga games last season.
