Adeyemi on hopes of returning to German national team: "Inshallah."
When it came to his prospects of returning to the German national team, the Munich-native couldn't resist resorting to the language associated with his heritage.
The "Karim Adeyemi" show was back in full force last night in Borussia Dortmund's win over first-place Bundesliga side 1. FC Heidenheim. After lighting it up for the Germany U21s over the recent international break, the 22-year-old from Munich very nearly came close to scoring a hat trick in two consecutive matches on-the-trot. Adeyemi remains on fire, having scored seven goals in his last three competitive fixtures.
Adeyemi netted two BVB goals in the first half of last night's victory. The four-times-capped German international had a wonderful opportunity to score a third in the 59th-minute, but instead opted to generously try and set up lead striker Serhou Guirassy in his Dortmund debut. The 22-year-old did briefly reference the scene in his post-match interview with German broadcaster DAZN before crediting his recent U21 call up for his success.
"I was hoping to score a third," Adeyemi said, "There's no need for me to deny it. I gained a lot of confidence from the U21s. For me it's all about confidence. I took confidence from the U21s. Today, the coach invested trust in me and I paid it back."
Adeyemi also repeatedly spoke on the issue of confidence when his brace against the Israeli U21s suggested that he might be in for a significant form surge. Could he hope for a return to the senior German national team? In an effort to perhaps mix things up a bit after fielding the same question over and over again, the son of a Nigerian father and Romanian mother went for the Arabic expression that conveys hope for the future.
"We say 'Inshallah' in our language," Adeyemi noted, "That means hopefully, hopefully."
