St. Pauli beat TSG Hoffenheim home and away in their long-awaited return to Bundesliga last term, but they lost 3-0 to Christian Ilzer’s side on Sunday. Furthermore, they have only found the net once in their last four league matches, which all ended in defeats.

“The defeat hurts a lot,” said Alexander Blessin in his post-match interview. “Before the half-time break, we had a very good chance to take the lead. And, at half-time, we said we wanted to continue like that, but the early goal killed us."

St. Pauli also finished last season with the fewest goals scored in the league. However, the coach was more annoyed by his defenders after they conceded three second-half goals. “There were too many individual mistakes. That's very annoying. We have to keep working hard.”

St. Pauli will have a chance to avenge this defeat when the two teams meet again ten days later in the DFB-Pokal.
