VfL Wolfsburg full-back Joakim Mæhle will be sidelined “until further notice” after sustaining a shoulder injury in training, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Thursday.

Described as “serious” by Wolfsburg, the injury is expected to keep the Danish international out for many weeks.

With Mæhle out, Aaron Zehnter looks set to continue at left-back when Die Wölfe face Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Mæhle, 28, has made nine appearances for Wolfsburg so far this season.

Paul Simonis’ side sit 12th in the Bundesliga table ahead of the weekend fixtures.
