Multiple reports suggest Mbabu has played last match for Augsburg

After a booking incurred in last night's loss to VfB Stuttgart leaves him suspended for his club's final league fixture, it looks to be the case that Swiss fullback Kevin Mbabu has played his final match for FC Augsburg.

Former VfL Wolfsburg professional Kevin Mbabu has enjoyed an immensely successful season since returning to German football on loan at the beginning of the year. The 29-year-old Swiss international has started every league fixture for loan club FC Augsburg since match-day four. Mbabu collected two league assists amid a string of noteworthy and impressive performances.

It nevertheless looks to be the case that the 24-times-capped international is headed back to his parent club of Fulham F.C. now that the season is over. Having incurred his fifth yellow card in last night's loss to Stuttgart, Mbabu has likely played his final match in an FCA tricot. Multiple German footballing media sources report that, much as the Fuggerstädter wish to keep him, circumstances will not permit it.

Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that Mbabu's move to the London side in the summer of 2022 brought with it a salary that Augsburg find untenable. Moreover, there is no purchase option in the current loan agreement with Fulham. Mbabu's parent club are known to want their player back and even attempted to recall him early during the recent January transfer window.
